Matthew Stajan was born December 19, 1983 in Mississauga, Ontario. The second round, 57th overall selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Matt anoffensivley inclined player. In three seasons with the OHL's Belleville Bulls, Stajan registered 206 points (76-130-206) in 182 games. A member of Canada's silver medal World Junior Team in 2003, Stajan saw his first professional action in the latter stages of the 2002-03 AHL and NHL seasons.
After getting a taste of the NHL in 2002-03, Stajan made a strong for a roster spot in 2003-04. With a solid training camp and pre-season.He has played over 170 nhl games so far while he and his game are maturing nicley into a top 2 lines player.
Matt is very heady with or without the puck. Has the versatility to line up at all three forward positions. Displays plenty of offensive upside. He has started to fill out his 6'1 frame adding alot of muscle over the 05-06 season. This has made him a lot strongeron the puck.He carrys the puck into the opposition zone like another #14 use too.
His behind the net play is 100% improved from last season, and while he used to get knocked off the puck easily last year he is now a force along the boards and has setup a lot of chances and goals from there. When he's behind the net with the puck, you just feel comfortable that he'll find his wingers for a scoring opportunity.
