Kyle Wellwood, C
Quote:
Kyle Wellwood was born May 16, 1983 in Windsor, Ontario. The sixth choice, 134th overall selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Wellwood is a graduate of the OHL.
Finished 4th in ahl scoring in 04-05. Is capable of highlight reel efforts. He is a energetic playmaker with a low center of gravity and he has lighting quick hands. He is sneaky on his feet and has aknack for creating space by holding defensers at bay with his stick hand trickery. Kyle effortlessly shifts the puck around at top speed and sports nice clean release which makes it hard to sport the release point. -mckeens 05-06
. . . ........ ...... . ...... . . ... .. . . . . . . . . . . ."Son of mess" sees the ice better than most players and has very deft touch whenever handling the puck. Has proven to be an accomplished playmaker at every level. His skating has improved to the point where he is one of the faster players on the leafs while handling the puckAn offensively gifted forward, Wellwood played four seasons in the OHL (99-2003) with stops in Belleville and Kitchener registering 352 points (12-232-352) and was an OHL First Team All-Star in 2001 before making his professional debut during the 2003-04 season. A member of Canada's Silver Medal World Junior team in 2002, Wellwood spent the majority of the 2003-04 season with the AHLs St. John's Maple Leafs, registering 55 points (20-35-55) in 76 games, while making his NHL debut with the parent club early in the new year. legends of hockey05-06 is Wellwoods coming out season. Kyle has been one of the top rookies of the 05-6 NHL season. He's been quite good on the backcheck, and solid in the corners in his own end considering his size. Welly makes plays that havent done by anyone in a leaf uniform in years. He is capable of berezin like rushes, complete with passing skills, and another nice element of his game is he has a creativness with the puck that is simular to Dougie Gilmours killer playmaking ability.Next season is going to be much like his second season in the OHL, and the AHL, and he's and the other young talented Leafs are going to be a huge part of this team next season.

Reasons Why Wellwood Won't Make NHL (Funny read after he has made the nhl)
I've taken all of these from actual posts at HF. Feel free to add your own reason why Wellwood won't play in the NHL. Be as creative as possible.- Too small- Can't skate- No defensive skills- Not gritty enough- Passed over 133 times in his draft year- He's a perimeter player- Not strong enough - Not a good enough goal scorer- Game relies on time and space that he won't get in the NHL- Purely a setup guy who needs to play with great scorers to have success- Won't be able to play a top 2 line role, not suited for the 3rd or 4th line- Not good enough for NHL style game, game is more suited for the AHL- Many high scoring Junior players haven't made the NHL- Smaller, skilled players almost never make the NHL- Simply taking advantage of AHL calibre defencemenAdded:- Not pretty enough- Too clean shaven- He's a Leaf- Too much body weight- Lacks work ethic- Is afraid of being hit- Doesn't have "the tools"- Weak on his skates- - Doesn't have grit like Corey Locke - Politics- His 0 PIM season in junior - He practiced with Kaberle one time- He is uncontrollably destined to follow in the footsteps of ______ _______ (insert career minor leaguer here)- Mess has put too much pressure on him- Doesn't have good enough reach- Odds are stacked against him
